Donetsk, Feb 23 – DAN. Donetsk water treatment plant (DFS) came under Ukrainian forces fire on Thursday morning; its filters building sustained damage, Voda Donbassa state-owned water supply company director general Oleg Mokriy told Donetsk News Agency.

“DFS area was shelled at 7:30 a.m.; the first impacts on DFS premises were recorded approximately at the same time. The shelling damaged the roof of the building housing filters but the equipment was intact,” Mokriy said.

Impacts were also registered in proximity to reservoirs. DFS is operating, he added.

“The personnel panicked and hid in the shelter. We’ll try to calm them down and get their work back on track, if possible,” he said.

On 18 February, shelling caused a power outage at DFS. Repairs lasted two days and the facility resumed operation on 21 February.

Donetsk water treatment plant, located between Yasinovataya and Kiev-controlled Avdeyevka has long been a trouble spot on the contact line in Donbass. It supplies water to both sides of the contact line, DPR-controlled Donetsk and Yasinovataya and Vasilyevka and Spartak villages, and Kiev-controlled Avdeyevka, Krasnogorovka and Verkhnetoretskoye village. DFS repeatedly came under fire and suspended operation.*jk
