Donetsk, Dec 24 - DAN. A new 28-meter high Ferris wheel will be installed in Donetsk’s Scherbakov Park in 2021, city administration head Alexey Kulemzin said on Thursday.
“We live in a difficult time, but even so, specialised companies in the Sverdlovsk region have begun to build a Ferris wheel specially for the Scherbakov Park, thanks to residents of Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area,” Kulemzin said.
It will be as tall as a nine-storey house and have 18 cars including eight heated ones and one for people with disabilities, he said. The new amusement ride will replace the old Ferris wheel due to be dismantled in the near future.
“We hope that the new Ferris wheel will be assembled next year and that it will bring joy to all city dwellers and guests,” the Donetsk mayor said.
The 27-meter high Ferris wheel in the Scherbakov Park was installed back in 1982. Providing it with a heating system or making it available to people with disabilities was out of the question at that time. For years, it was one of Donetsk’s key symbols. The facility has not functioned after one of the wheel spokes broke in September 2019.*jk
