Donetsk, Sep 5 — DAN. Donetsk authorities are preparing to increase the number of water points and water trucking for residents, city mayor Alexey Kulemzin said at a briefing on Monday held at the instruction of Donetsk People’s Republic Head Denis Pushilin.

“We deliver water to the population; 112 specialized vehicles are involved in these efforts; these are vehicles of the Moscow government, the Russian and DPR emergencies ministries as well as Russian army vehicles, ” Kulemzin said. “Russia is now sending more vehicles for additional servicing of Donetsk districts. We plan to increase the number of water points and boost water supply.”

Director of the DPR Emergencies Ministry Civil Defense and Population Protection Department Vadim Kapustin said that Donetsk had launched 218 water points. Water is also supplied to 97 boiler houses. Service water is provided by five integrated treatment facilities at the city ponds.

The DPR began to experience water shortages in February when its water supply facilities came under Kiev forces fire. Large towns such as Donetsk, Makeyevka and Gorlovka introduced scheduled water supply. Tap water is unavailable in certain districts as repairs are not possible due to the proximity to the zone of fighting. To resolve water problems, the authorities continue to look for alternative sources, actively build additional water supply lines and deliver drinking and service water to the population for free.*jk
