Donetsk, Jul 28 — DAN. Republican Trauma Center medics have performed finger prosthesis surgery for the first time on a patient presenting with rhizathrosis, the Donetsk People’s Republic Healthcare Ministry reported on Friday.

After a follow-up examination, the woman was diagnosed with arthrosis of 1st carpometacarpal joint. To preserve joint flexibility, the saddle joint was fully replaced with a ceramic implant, ” the Ministry said.

Grasping functions fully recovered two weeks after stitch removal, and the pain syndrome disappeared. The woman was transferred to outpatient care.

“Rapid development of medical aid in the Donetsk region has made it possible to carry out complex microsurgical interventions to restore joint flexibility in patients and get them back to normal life, ” health officials said.

The Donetsk News Agency earlier reported on Donetsk Hospital No 6 hernia excision in a patient with acute appendicitis inside hernia sac.  Doctors had to change surgery tactic and cut off the appendage without extra incision and then repair the femoral canal. Appendicitis in hernia sac is only found in 2 to 4 percent of all herniatomy cases. It was the first such surgery performed by Donetsk doctors.*jk
