Donetsk, Jan 20 — DAN. Rail link between the Donetsk People’s Republic and Russian regions might be launched later this year, DPR government first deputy chairman Yevgeny Solntsev said on Friday.

“In railway transportation, we see the population’s demand for restoring old routes and creating new ones, ” Solntsev wrote on Telegram. “We’ll make all efforts this year to implement the project for direct rail links with Russian towns.”

Railway transport has always been popular with Donbass residents. Last year alone, some 900,000 passengers travelled with Donetsk Railways. Repairs of DPR railway infrastructure are ongoing, the official said.

“In 2022, we restored facilities at three railway stations, repaired the superstructure of 13 stations and eight stretches of railway, laid 27 kilometers of tracks, performed track ballasting and surfacing on 27 kilometers of tracks and relaunched the dispatching system at three stations, Solntsev said noting that Donetsk Railways’ integration into the Russian network would start this year.*jk
