Donetsk, Oct 27 — DAN. The average pension in the Donetsk People’s Republic has increased by approximately 40 percent after recalculation under the Russian law, director of the regional Social Fund branch Galina Sagaidakova told the Donetsk News Agency.

“As of October 1, 2023, the average pension calculated under Russian norms amounted to 19,779.03 rubles, i.e. well above the average pension granted under regional laws, ” Sagaidakova said.

On February 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a federal law on pensions in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The law launched the transition to the Russian pension system starting March 1. The persons eligible for pensions are women and men who have reached the retirement age of 58 and 63, respectively, and have Russian passport with residence registration.

The citizens who can have their pensions recalculated in the period from March 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024, are eligible for new payments starting March 1, 2023 but not before the recalculation date. However, Russian Social Fund Chairman Sergey Chirkov announced plans on Thursday to extend the period until the end of 2024.*jk
