Donetsk, Aug 14 - DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic environmentalists assisted by Donetsk Republic social movement activists eliminated some 700 unauthorised garbage dumps in a month, deputy chairman of the DPR Head Environmental Policy Committee Alexey Bondarenko said at a press briefing here on Tuesday.

“DPR environmentalists jointly with activists checked a number of towns in the Republic for unauthorised garbage dumps as part of the programme to control compliance with environmental protection legislation and rational use of natural resources in the DPR territory,” Bondarenko said. “Some 700 dumps were eliminated.”

The checks, launched in July, are now completed in Shakhtyorsk, Torez and Amvrosiyevka. Environmentalists plan to recruit university students for this work in September.

The Republic's utility services also joined anti-litter efforts. The DPR Housing Construction and Public Utilities Ministry said that as of August 1, more than 1,100 unauthorised garbage dumps had been eliminated since January 2018.*jk
