Donetsk, Feb 23 – DAN. Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov has congratulated Donbass defendants on the Fatherland Defender's Day.

"First of all, I wish luck and happiness to all Donbass defenders. Everything is for real there. This is a true heroism," he told DAN news agency.

Surkov also shared his memories of his service in the Soviet Army, where he was a part of a reconnaissance battalion based in Hungary.

Defender of the Fatherland Day is celebrated on February 23 in the post-Soviet states. It was officially celebrated for the first time in 1922 in Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic as the Day of the Red Army and Fleet. Ukraine has abolished the holiday. *ot
