Donetsk, Nov 14 — DAN. The Russian parliament has supported the first reading of the amendments to the federal child support law which introduce new eligibility criteria for maternity capital.
Lawmakers say that children must acquire citizenship by birth to be eligible for this type of benefit. For example, it can be provided to a family where one parent has Russian citizenship and the other is a foreigner, on the condition that the child was born in Russia.
After the document comes into force, the parents of a child born outside of Russia will be unable to get maternity capital. Residents of the new Russian regions have the right to maternity capital regardless of the date of acquiring Russian citizenship.*jk
