Donetsk, Mar 3 - DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic Head Denis Pushilin has called upon Russian citizens living in Donbass to take part in the discussion of amendments to the Russian Constitution.
“A broad public discussion of amendments to the Constitution, initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, is ongoing in Russia,” Pushilin said in a statement published on the head of state website on Tuesday. “I believe that citizens of the Russian Federation who live in Donbass have to be involved in the process, too.”
Pushilin suggested discussing the amended preamble forwarded to the working group on constitutional amendments by deputy chairman of the Russian parliament committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots Konstantin Zatulin.
“I ask People’s Council deputies, representatives of the Public Chamber and the Youth Parliament, Donetsk Republic and Free Donbass social movements activists as well as public representatives to offer their comments regarding this amendment,” the DPR leader said.
He expressed the hope that the opportunity to express one’s opinion on Russian constitutional amendments will be taken “with enthusiasm and that it will be used while understanding the exception importance, scope and the intensity of ongoing processes and their impact on the fate of our state and our people.”
On April 24, 2019 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the degree on determining groups of foreign nationals eligible to obtain Russian citizenship under a simplified procedure. The document specifically eases Russian citizenship rules for residents of the Donbass Republics. The first Russian passports were issued on July 14, 2019. Donbass Republics residents have to travel to Russia’s Rostov region to collect their Russian passports.*jk
