Donetsk, Jan 27 - DAN. Deliveries of weapons to Donbass by Russia will help face Ukrainian aggression, but Donetsk still does not want the conflict to escalate to an active phase, Donetsk People’s Republic representative at the Minsk talks, DPR Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova told the Donetsk News Agency on Thursday.
“Amid the US-NATO campaign, horrible by its scale, to pump weapons, ammunition, hardware and money into Ukraine, it would be inadmissible thoughtlessness on our part to hope for peaceful disposition and common sense of Ukrainian authorities,” Nikonorova said. “We are thankful for the initiative which the United Russia Party leadership voiced yesterday regarding the assistance to the Republic which could help us fight Kiev aggression.”
On Wednesday, Federation Council First Deputy Speaker, United Russia Party General Council Secretary Andrey Turchak said that Russia had to supply certain kinds of weapons to the DPR and the LPR. The proposal was supported by a number of Russian activists and politicians. Nikonorova said that it is an important step for the Republic and that Donetsk will certainly welcome the adoption of such a decision.
“As the DPR representative at the Minsk talks, I will note that for our part, we’ll be making all efforts to decrease the possibility of the emergence of the situation which would require the use of weapons. Despite the militaristic mood of Ukrainian leaders and their western supervisors, Donbass still does not want the resumption of the hot phase of the conflict and will do everything to keep Kiev within diplomatic track,” the DPR representative said. *jk
