Donetsk, Aug 12 – DAN. Russian humanitarian convoys have saved many lives in the DPR that has been subjected to a blockade by Ukraine, said the DPR Head Denis Pushilin.
"Our state is at war and is subjected to economic and transport blockade by Ukraine, and it highly values the humanitarian aid provided by the Russian Federation. There is no doubt that the convoys delivering medications, food and construction material have saved many lives," he said.
Pushilin expressed the gratitude to Russia on behalf of all the DPR residents.
Five years ago, on August 12, 2014, the first EMERCOM humanitarian convoy consisting of 280 trucks started off from Naro-Fominsk in the Moscow region for the south-western border of the Russian Federation carrying two thousand tons of humanitarian supplies, such as food, medications, power generators.
The cargo trucks were soon nicknamed white KAMAZes. Since 2014, they have delivered over 43,000 tons of humanitarian aid to the war-torn region.*ot
