Donetsk, Oct 26 - DAN. Representatives of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic in the humanitarian subgroup demanded that Ukraine return head of the Political Council of the party “Opposition Platform - For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk to the negotiations, DPR ombudswoman Darya Morozova said on Tuesday.

“Taking into account the situation in the humanitarian group, the DPR and the LPR demanded that Ukraine recall Galina Tretyakova from the negotiating process, replacing her with a professional representative who can be negotiated with.  We believe that politician and activist Viiktor Medvedchuk is most suitable for the position thanks to his successful experience in the Minsk talks and in arranging prisoner exchanges,” Morozova said.

She reminded that the crisis in the subgroup talks began with the appointment of Tretyakova more than 18 months ago.

“This time has been sufficient in order to see her incompetence and inability to negotiate. The lack of results at the Tuesday session has proved again that we won’t achieve productive dialogue with this Kiev representative,” Morozova said.

Viktor Medvedchuk is a Ukrainian politician, head of the Political Council of the party “Opposition Platform - For Life.” In 2015-2019, he took part in the Minsk talks as Kiev representative in the humanitarian subgroup where he also worked on the prisoner exchange problem. Medvedchuk helped mediate the largest prisoner exchange between Ukraine and the Donbass Republics on December 29, 2019. Back then, the prisoner swap was carried out under the 124-for-76 formula. *jk
