Donetsk, Dec 30 — DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic lawmakers will elect the DPR Head for a term of five years according to the new Constitution, People’s Council (parliament) speaker Vladimir Bidyovka said after the adoption of the document on Friday.

“Head of the Republic is the top executive, to be elected by indirect vote, i.e. by People’s Council deputies, which is a new procedure to the Republic, ” Bidyovka said. “The head is elected for a term of five years.”

The new Constitution states that the People’s Council is the permanent representative and the only legislative body of the Republic consisting of 90 deputies who are elected for a term of five years by direct vote, i.e. by citizens at voting stations, he added.

The Fundamental Law was amended several times. The latest amendments introduced in June 2022 gave the powers to the DPR Head to appoint the prosecutor general and his deputies.*jk
