Donetsk, Dec 31 - DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic expects the delivery of the first batch of the Russian-made COVID-19 vaccine in January 2021, DPR Head Denis Pushilin said on Thursday.
“We requested the Russian government to provide humanitarian assistance to the DPR by supplying the Russian-made vaccine against coronavirus; it quickly considered and granted our request,” Pushilin said. “We expect the beginning of the delivery of the first batch of the vaccine in January 2021.”
High risk groups such as militiamen and medics who are fighting COVID-19 will be the first to be vaccinated, he said.
“I’m sure that vaccination of the population, as the next move to combat the threat of the coronavirus infection spread, will save numerous lives and bring us closer to getting back to our normal way of life and work,” Pushilin said.
The DPR leader thanked Russia for its assistance.
The Russian Federation launched the production of vaccine against the coronavirus infection in August. It was registered on August 11, the first in the world. The vaccine, Sputnik V, was developed by the Russian Health Ministry’s Gamaleya Research Centre.*jk
