Donetsk, Oct 26 – DAN. Late varieties of chrysanthemums have bloomed in the Donetsk Botanical Garden, the flowers will not die until first frosts, the garden's press service told DAN.

"Chrysanthemums are considered most well-known autumn flowers, white, yellow, violet, red-purple, red, piebald, they fascinate with their simplicity and vivid colors. Our collection comprises nearly 30 varieties," the interlocutor said.

Late varieties of chrysanthemums bloom in November – January.

Apart from chrysanthemums, other late flowers catch visitors' eye: bougainvillea, pachystachys, murraya, mandarins, lemons and papaya.

Chrysanthemum is a herbaceous wintering and greenhouse plant originating from Chine, where it was cultivated 2,500 years ago. Today the flower is a symbol of Japan.

Donetsk Botanical Garden is a research institute, landmark of park art, nature reserved area, gene pool of rare and endangered species, ecological education center, tourist attraction and recreation ground for local population. It was founded in 1964 and currently is based on a 203 ha plot of land, one of the largest European gardens. It also features 40 thousand samples of seeds, one of the largest collections of plant seeds in Europe, and a herbarium of 120,000 samples.*ot
