Donetsk, August 18 — DAN. Ukrainian armed formations have shelled the center of Svetlodarsk causing civilian casualties, the Lugansk People’s Republic Office at the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC) reported on Thursday.

“According to preliminary information, Ukrainian gunmen fired at the center of Svetlodarsk when water was distributed to the population in the school and town hospital area, ” the JCCC said. “Three civilians including a child were killed and another 12 people were wounded.”

Fire was delivered with 155mm artillery pieces at 9:50. The enemy expended five projectiles. No more details were immediately available.

Svetlodarsk is located 18 kilometers north of Debaltsevo. It was founded in 1968. The town accommodates the Uglegorskaya thermal power plant, one of the largest in Europe. On April 29, 2014, a rally in the town adopted a resolution in support of the Donetsk People’s Republic independence referendum. Ukrainian troops occupied the town in the summer of 2014. The Russian coalition liberated the town in late May 2022. Svetlodarsk was included in the Debaltsevo responsibility zone.*jk
