“In the first half of 2021, compared to the same period last year, the export of Portland cement increased by 10 times, in the six first months of this year 59.73 thousand tons were exported, last year - 5.38 thousand tons," the report reads.
The increase has been attributed to the growth of production volume and access to new markets.
As for grain crops, exports increased by 134 pc, mainly due to an increase in exports of wheat and barley (in 2021 38.04 thousand tons were exported, in 2020 - 16.29 thousand tons).
The export of coal and coke showed a 7 pc increase up to 1,364.36 thousand tons (1,278.53 in 2020). The export of rolled metal and semi-finished steel products decreased by 50 pc, which can be explained by the decrease in the activity of the enterprises of CJSC Vneshtorgservis.
Sunflower oil export dropped by 42 pc due to scheduled maintenance at manufacturing enterprises and preparation of equipment for the start of sunflower harvesting; bran and oil cake dipped by 29 pc due to an increase in demand for these goods in the domestic market.
The total of 1,820 thousand tons of cargo were cleared in the “export” customs regime, while in the same period in 2020, 1,932 thousand tons of cargo were exported.
Portland cement is the most common type of cement. Its composition is dominated by calcium silicates, accounting for 70-80 pc of the mass. Named after the English limestone island of Portland it is believed to be invented by an Englishman Joseph Aspdin, who patented it in 1824. However, the Russian builder Yegor Cheliev invented a similar substance independently and described it in his book published in 1825. *ot
