Donetsk, May 30 — DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic authorities are planning to build a monument to fighters of the “Wagner” private military company in central Artyomovsk, acting DPR Minister of Culture Mikhail Zheltyakov said.
“I believe we must announce a contest in the Republic for the best sketch of a monument to ‘Wagner’ fighters, ” Zheltyakov told the Donetsk News Agency adding that the monument had to be placed in central Artyomovsk.
“Wagner” fighters are heroically brave people who “picked out” the enemy from every meter of the ground in the town, ” he said.
The Ministry of Culture will announce the contest immediately after inventorying the cultural facilities in Artyomovsk, the official said.
Artyomovsk is a large district center north of Gorlovka. Ukrainian forces occupied the town in 2014 and turned it into a heavily fortified area. The clashes for the town began in the autumn of 2022 as part of the special military operation. It was liberated from Ukrainian troops on May 20, 2023. The town mop-up operation was carried out by the “Wagner” PMC.*jk
