Donetsk, Nov 29 – DAN. The students of Donetsk National Technical University and Donetsk Metallurgical College have visited Yuzovskiy Metallurgical Plant (UMZ) with an excursion today.

Over 50 students saw the main workshop of the plant, which currently employs over a thousand workers. UMZ relaunched steel-making process this autumn, and plans to restart its sheet steel production hiring 600 more people.

Young people were shown all production stages: melting, transportation of hot steel and casting.

On 25 July 2016, DPR Council of Ministers decided to establish the UMZ using the facilities of Donetsk Electrometallurgical Plant (DEMZ), which had been stopped by Ukrainian authorities in early 2014. The UMZ sprawls over 60 hectares of land. Some 400 workers were engaged in the pre-launch works.

On October 5 DPR Head Alexander Zakharchenko took part in the launching event.

The UMZ administration plans to hire more employees and produce about 30,000 tons of steel a month, part of which will be exported.*ot
